A FLEA BRAIN?
An overworked ad executive was ordered by the boss to do an exhaustive
study on fleas and how they might be trained to use in some
innovative ad campaigns for a prospective client.
He carefully captured, subdued and trained a large flea to jump over his
finger every time he yelled, "Hup!" Then he pulled
off two of the flea's six legs. "Hup!" he yelled.
The flea jumped over his finger as it had been trained to
do. Off came two more flea legs. "Hup!" went the
command. Again the flea jumped. Then he pulled off the
flea's last two legs. Sadly, when he yelled "Hup!"
he flea no longer moved.
The ad
exec concluded that fleas would be difficult to train and
use in any ad campaigns--because, as he wrote in his report:
"When a flea loses all six of its legs, it becomes deaf."
